Hi darling! Welcome to the my journal, my journey about my real life, my heart and my travels photographing beautiful souls! Sit back, have cup of tea and stay for a while and be sure to say hello!
I was super scared. I mean T-E-R-R-I-F-I-E-D of.. *dun dun duuuuu* live videos. I would have rather done a public speech for 4 hours straight then do LIVE VIDEOS.
I don’t know why. In my life I’ve done WELL OVER 150 public speeches (thanks 4H and church preaching) but LIVE VIDEOS. NO. OMG NO. NEVERNEVERNEVER getting back together NO.
So, I decided to do them. EVERY DAY.
I have this crazy belief that if something that I know will move me forward SCARES ME, than I am jumping head first into it to GET OVER MYSELF.
I know, I’m a magical unicorn like that but I DID IT! And here is what I learned.
NOTE: I propped my phone up on my computer so I could do instagram live and facebook live at the same time. I asked my instagram what time I should do and so they choose 1pm.
1.) Instagram has people jumping in and out constantly.
This is a platform norm I noticed.. AND ALSO TERRIFYING when you are talking.. All of a sudden you mention something and BOOM people go… AH!! I think this is because people on their phones are out and about or easily can click away.
2.) Instagram rewatches of the live are WAY less than my stories.
Granted I have die hard story followers that WATCH EVERYTHING EVERY DAY, because Story Nation is the jam, but not even HALF of those watchers saw the live rewatch. Am I not as cool live?!?! BECAUSE I TOTALLY AM.
3.) Having topics helps me more than a “plan”
Having a list of pre written topics? NOPE did not work for me. It made my anxious for sure. I like to wing it and just go for it. Having a ton of things written down made me choppy and sloppy when trying to lead the conversation. I liked just picking a topic and going for it. It worked better for my “flow.”
4.) Being people’s Kelly and Regis live made me happy.
My die hards came and hung out almost EVERY DAY! I love you Story Nation.
5.) I skipped the weekend because there was too much going on.
#life
6.) It great easier the more you do it.
I was too scared at first posing it out on my public fan page. I admit it. I put my toes in the water before DIVING in. It was my way of making it easier so I didn’t FREAK OUT. Once I had done it for almost a week, I did my FIRST public facebook one, I was on FIRE!!!!! I felt completely comfortable and it flowed. It was epic and so much FUNNNN!! (Click here to see my first one)
7.) Doing hair and makeup everyday by 1pm is a BEAST.
You know when you are in the middle of the mom bun working working working and you are getting THINGS DONE… then you have to stop and glam up? WORTH IT and also.. OMG. I have 10 mins to get my life together. GO GO GO.
8.) Go live on your public fan page.
Posting to my fan page on Facebook live had WAY more views and engagement. The one I did a few days ago had 281 views, and reached almost 800 people. WAY MORE than my instagram live and the private page combine.
9.) GET OVER YOURSELF AND JUST DO LIVE VIDEOS.
People will watch. People will care. People want to hear from you.
10.) If not one is there watching you, KEEP GOING!
It does feel frustrating when you are creating content or going live and you see NO ONE IS WATCHING AT ALL. HELLO. BEEN THERE. WAS THERE THIS WEEK BOO. But even when no one was there, I was, and I kept going like a million were watching because one day, they will be and I’ll need the practice of those moments. 😀
My feelings now? I LOVEEEE LIVES!. I love being able to say hello to my tribe in the middle of their day. I love making a difference and know it matters. HAPPY LIVE!
Julie
